Your Global Positioner

Beautiful turquoise Caribbean water surrounded the one hundred and ten-foot-long boat.  Several lushly forested Honduran Islands lay scattered around us.

As I stood on the top deck of our little boat, a friend requested, “look at my GPS monitor.”  He handed me a rectangular device about the size of a television remote control “The global positioning system monitor shows me my exact longitude, latitude, elevation and distance from my home in Texas. Twenty-two satellites in orbit around earth electronically communicate with this device.  I always know where I am,” he said.  Remarkable technology!

Scripture tells us about a global Positioner.  This Positioner is a Person, not an electronic device.

Our Heavenly Positioner “never takes his eyes off the righteous,” Job 36:7.  He “will counsel [us] with [his] loving eye on [us],” Psalm 32:8.  He knows our longitude, latitude, elevation—everything about our location.  He feels our fears and anxieties, our disappointments and pain, our wishes and desires.

The man-made global positioning system tells us where we are.  Our Heavenly Positioner knows where he wants us going and constantly works to keep us in step with his purposes and plans.  Be confident in the infinite Positioner “who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go,” Isaiah 48:17.  Pay no attention to the absurdity of circumstances; don’t be disheartened by present unpleasantness.  Your Heavenly Positioner loves you with unfailing, immeasurable affection.

If you don’t know where you are or where you’re going, don’t worry!  “I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future,” Jeremiah 29:11.  Rest in the Positioner’ knowledge and everything will be alright!
