Confidant

pursue intimacy with GodThe Lord looks for confidants to whom he can pour out his heart and thoughts. The dictionary defines “confidant” as “one to whom secrets are entrusted”. Proverbs 3:22 declares, “The Lord…takes the upright into his confidence.” So, by his Word and his Spirit, God pours his thoughts and his feelings into everyone who seeks to please him. Keep reading the Word and spending that private time communing with him in praise, thanksgiving and adoration. In this way you become the Lord’s confidant; his trusted companion!

The Right Place at the Right Time

Book of RuthThe eighth book in the Old Testament, Ruth, shows how intimately God is involved with guiding your steps.  A much less than prosperous Jewish lady named Naomi lost her husband and two sons two untimely deaths.  She returned from a country called Moab to Israel and her hometown of Bethlehem.  After moving from Moab to Bethlehem, her daughter-in-law Ruth asked her mother-in-law’s permission to “go to the fields and pick up the left over grain behind anyone in whose eyes I find favor” (Ruth 2:20.  What an indefinite request: anyone in whose eyes I find favor.” Well, God led Ruth’s steps even though she was unaware of it.  The field she worked in belonged to a distant relative of Naomi’s husband.  This man, Boaz, was older than Ruth, but she caught his attention.  Eventually, Boaz and Ruth married and their child became the great-grandfather of the second king of Israel named David from whom Jesus descended.

So, dear friends, rest in the Lord who is capable of making sure that you are in the right place at the right time.  Even when life turns out less than pleasant, your God is with you and “works out everything for his own ends” (Proverbs 16:4).  Encourage yourself by remembering the Lord who placed Ruth at the right place at the right time and does the same for you!

Verses that Vivify from the Book of Job

Book of JobMany years ago I began recording Verses that Vivify during my private reading of Scripture.  My secretary types these verses into a file on our computer.  Consequently, this blog shares with you the verses that vivify from the book of Job.  I trust they are a blessing and encouragement to you and build a new appreciation for the book we call Job.

Verses that Vivify From the Book of Job

Job 4:3-4 You have instructed many, how you have strengthened feeble hands. Your words have supported those who stumbled; you have strengthened faltering knees.

Job 5:9 He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted.

Job 10:8-9 Your hands shaped me and made me.…you molded me like clay.

Job 10:12 You gave me life and showed me kindness, and in your providence watched over my spirit.

Job 11:7 Can you fathom the mysteries of God? Can you probe the limits of the Almighty?

Job 12:10 In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.

Job 14: 14-15 All the days of my hard service I will wait for my renewal to come. You will call and I will answer you; you will long for the creature your hands have made.

Job 16:5 My mouth would encourage you; comfort from my lips will bring you relief.

Job 17:9 The righteous will hold to their ways, and those with clean hands will grow stronger.

Job 19:25 I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth.

Job 22:22 Accept instruction from his mouth and lay up his words in your heart.

Job 22:23 & 25 If you return to the almighty you will be restored.…then the Almighty will be your gold, the choicest silver for you.

Job 22:23, 26-27 If you return to the Almighty you will be restored.…then you will find delight in the Almighty and will lift up your face to God. You will pray to him, and he will hear you.

Job 23:10 He knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold.

Job 23:12 I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.

What Does God Look Forward To?

        godiscallingyou

What does God look forward to?  Your presence in his courts!  No, I’m not referring to moving to heaven.  God looks forward to sharing private time with you as you worship, praise, magnify and glorify him.  The Lord likes being appreciated; he enjoys being paid attention to; he longs to interact with your spirit.  Don’t you recall Zephaniah 3:17?  “The Lord, your God, will take great delight in you;…he will…rejoice over you with singing.”  Yes, the Creator of everything created you for himself.

Set a time goal for being alone with the Lord.  15 minutes? 20 minutes?  Adhere to your goal everyday and you will experience God’s presence.  Soon, you will start looking forward to your time with the Lord just like he excitedly anticipates being with you!

Be greatly encouraged,

Pastor James Fields

Your Companion During Troubled Times

breaking newsInstantaneous electronic communication fills 21st century humanity with a constant birage of news about earth’s troubles.  This knowledge can easily overwhelm us with dread and remorse.  In fact, Jesus predicted, “On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity….People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world,” Luke 21:25-26.

God’s Promises to His Servants

standing on his promisesIsaiah 65:13-14 lists several promises God makes to his servants.  This is what the Sovereign Lord says:

“My servants will eat.” Yes, Jesus promised that God will see to it that you have enough to eat, but eating is more than consuming food.  The Lord promises that his Word will energize your spirit with superhuman energy to overcome sin.  His Word provides uplifting meditation for your mind that keeps you happy in the midst of this worlds chaos.

When You Can’t Report a Victory

Unseen things eternalI’ve attended many Christian services and meetings where people reported wonderful, dramatic answers to prayer. These fine folks related how God healed their disease, saved their relatives, rescued them from financial doom, or preserved their children’s marriage. The congregation raised hands, praised the Lord and applauded. The preacher rejoiced and quoted, “The things that are impossible with men are possible with God.” …

When You Don’t Know What to Ask

Bible StudyHere’s an email we received: “The surgery was a disaster. My husband had a brain hemorrhage and stroke in recovery. He was in ICU for 9 days. His brain is slowly waking up. It probably will be a recovery that takes several weeks/months. Thanks for praying for us—we have needed it!”  After reading this email we didn’t know specifically how to pray for our friend. What do we do when we don’t know what to ask? …

Do Not Fret

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil,” Psalm 37:7-8.

The word “fret” is defined in Webster’s 1828 Dictionary as “to rub; to wear away by friction; to corrode; to gnaw; eat away; to agitate; disturb and vex.”  Obviously, God warns us of fretting because of its dire consequences for us.  Fretting always hurts you physically, spiritually and in every other way.  Its corrosive effect eats away at your strength to seek the Lord because fretting turns your attention from him toward those who care nothing at all about Jesus.

God Wants Better Than the Best for You

Life ClockStages make up our lifetime on earth. God wants to serve as Lord over the stages of our lives. Stages are inevitable as we spend more and more years on planet earth. Consequently, don’t try holding on to the past . Let them go and enjoy where you are in energy level, number of years, and interests.

Lots of pleasant memories fill my mind. Delores and I have fun talking about these past events, but we don’t want to return to any of them. Why? Because we are having fun being seniors. More importantly, we have the faith to enter new stages of life because God is with us and God has good things in mind for the current time of life in which we find ourselves.

Here is a Scripture Sheet entitled God Wants Better Than The Best For You. This “best” includes the stage of life you are in.
